You are here

We’re inside Yale University’s Marsh Lecture Hall for the 7th International Conference on Quantum Error Correction. Shortly you will experience our site-specific artwork, Quantum Error Choir. Our artwork inverts the relationship between audience and performer; the seats become the stage as you—the observer—determine the outcome of the quantum artwork through your act of observation. Scroll down further to learn more about this artwork, or proceed directly to seat selection.

Detecting error

Each of you will perform the role of an ancilla qubit, entangling with the invisible data qubits around you to reveal errors that arise in the system. Use your device’s entangler button to explore the system, but beware: Humans are awfully large compared to physical qubits, and the act of entangling with the system might just be a source of error in itself.

Correcting error

While our artwork’s “quantum error” is metaphorical, the act of correcting it is not. Our artwork uses actual quantum error correction algorithms developed by Dr. Yue Wu here at Yale University to resolve that accumulated error, and restore our choir to harmony. On real quantum hardware this process takes microseconds. Here we have dramatically slowed the act of resolution so that it can be fully experienced at our human scale.

Quantum Error Choir marks their second collaboration.
